Omar Abu Samhoud, a senior computer science student of the University of Nyíregyháza, stood out among the international students studying in Hungary not only for his academic achievements, but also for his community involvement. In May, he received the “Student of the Year 2025” award from the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Hungary in Budapest.
Omar came to the University of Nyíregyháza as a scholarship holder in 2021. Since then, he has enjoyed academic success, mentoring, awards and internships.
In May 2025, the CEEPUS Ministerial Conference was held in Budapest, Hungary, not only as a strategic forum for higher education cooperation in Central Europe, but also as a celebration of achievements. At the evening reception, Richárd Bodrogi, Director General of the Tempus Public Foundation, welcomed the participants and Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation, and Michael Schedl, Secretary General of the CEEPUS Central Office, presented the CEEPUS Ministerial Awards to the two most outstanding networks for the academic years 2022/2023 and 2023/2024.
Students from the Institute of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences planted trees and medicinal herbs in the János Tuzson Botanical Garden with the support of the Pannonia Scholarship Program.
Our university auditorium was buzzing with excitement on 7 May 2025 as students gathered for the much-anticipated annual Talent Contest. The event showcased a wide variety of performances, reflecting the diverse skills and creativity of our students.
The Music Institute of the University of Nyíregyháza organizes its next BURSA Dance House event on 09th of April 2025. starting at 8 p.m. in the Buliding "B" Mosaic Hall.
Two of our HÖOK mentor students, Nóri and Viktória, recently organized a delightful trip to the Sóstó Zoo for a group of international students. The sun was shining, making it the perfect day to explore the zoo and its many fascinating animals. The students had a great time discovering exotic species and learning more about wildlife. Nóri and Viktória guided the group through the zoo, ensuring everyone felt welcome and engaged. Laughter, photos, and great conversations filled the day.
The University of Nyíregyháza, in collaboration with the Green Action Group, joined the National Tree Planting Day. On March 1st, four trees were planted at four different locations on the campus with the help of volunteers and organizations. The National Tree Planting Day was organized for the first time this year, both within and beyond the country’s borders, initiated by the 10 Million Trees Foundation.
