Useful Tips for Stipendium Hungaricum and Diaspora Scholarship Holders in Nyíregyháza
**1. Travel to Nyíregyháza from Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport
- From Budapest Airport to Kőbánya-Kispest Train Station use bus line 200E toKőbánya-Kispest M: transfers to MÁV-Start trains towards Nyíregyháza
- From the train station to Nyíregyháza*: At KÖKI terminal, you can buy an InterCity (IC) or regular train to Nyíregyháza. These trains are operated by MÁV-START, the Hungarian State Railways. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machine on the platform.
- Do not take a taxi from Budapest to Nyíregyháza as it’s very expensive!
**2. Navigating the City
- Public Transport: Nyíregyháza has an efficient bus system. From Nyíregyháza train station bus lines 8 and 8A run towards University of Nyíregyháza
- Cycling: The city is bike-friendly. Consider getting a second-hand bicycle for daily commuting

- After your are settled in the dormitory pick up your training contract from International Relations Office (Building „A” 2nd floor, office 250)
- Complete your enrolment process at the Student Service Centre
- Ensure you complete your residence permit and registration with local authorities (your mentor will help you)
**5. Orientation days
- Taking part of the orientation day is mandatory. Dates: 3 September, 10 September, 17 September between 10.00 – 13.00
- Get in touch with your allocated mentor for help with administration and settling in

**6. Language
- Learn Basic Hungarian: While many speak English, knowing basic Hungarian phrases can be very helpful
- Language Classes: University of Nyíregyháza offers Hungarian language courses for international students

- Budgeting: Create a budget to manage your expenses. Please remember to have enough money to support yourself while you receive your first monthly SH allowance or for unexpected expenses
- Part-Time Jobs: Usually your student visa allows part-time work. It’s 30 hours/week and a maximum of 90 days after term time within a year
**12. Food and Shopping
- Grocery Stores: Tesco, Spar, and Lidl are common for groceries. Visit local markets for fresh produce
**13. Technology and Connectivity
- Mobile Network: Get a local SIM card from providers like T-Mobile, Vodafone, or Yettel.
- Internet: Ensure you have a reliable internet connection for studies and staying in touch with family. There is free WIFI within the Campus and University
**14. Hungary travel adaptors
- You will need to consider what to pack, ensure you can use your personal electrical appliances in Hungary
- For Hungary there are two associated plug types, types C and F. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type F is the plug which has two round pins with two earth clips on the side. Hungary operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz
**15. Support Services
- Mentor system: Get in touch with your allocated mentor for help with getting official documents or everyday issues, such as finding shops, events, getting around etc.
- Student Service Centre: Turn to SSC with administrative and academic issues (such as Neptun system, student certificate, credit certificate, enrolment etc.)
- International Relations Office: For assistance concerning other cases or in a case of an emergency
- Mental Health: We offer counseling services if you need support adjusting to life in a new country
