Name of the researcher(s) and research group:

  • Dr. István János PhD

Name of the Institute:
University of Nyíregyháza, Institute of Environmental Science

Research objectives:
Morphological, anatomical and pathological analysis of human skeletal remains. Elemental analysis of human bone samples.

Description and results of research:
I am physical anthropologist and my special field of interest focuses on morphological, craniometrical, pathological and palaeodemographical analysis of human skeletal remains. I am working on further research projects such as morphological analysis of human skeletal remains from the Arpadian age and the age of the Hungarian conquest. I am also interested in elemental analysis of human bone samples. On the basis of elemental status, we can draw conclusions from the nutrition and diseases of ancient populations. Additionally, I am taking part in a multidisciplinary research project which focuses on Egyptian mummies of Gamhud. These mummies came to light during the only Hungarian Egyptian excavation. I am working with cooperation with more Hungarian and international research institutes.
