On 28 October, the University of Nyíregyháza held its traditional International Student Welcome Ceremony, officially welcoming more than 200 first-year international students from 35 countries around the world. The occasion marked the beginning of a new chapter in the students' academic journeys and celebrated the diversity, cultural richness, and international spirit of the university community.
The ceremony provided an opportunity for the University's newest international students to become acquainted with one another and to share their cultural backgrounds and traditions. Through their country representatives, the students introduced themselves and their home countries to their fellow students and the university's management, offering a glimpse into the many cultures and experiences that now form part of the University's international community.
The event opened with a beautiful musical performance by the Institute of Music, featuring traditional Hungarian folk music played on the citera. The performance provided a fitting introduction to the celebration. Many of the international students also proudly attended the ceremony wearing their traditional clothing, adding colour and cultural significance to the occasion.
The students were warmly welcomed by Dr. György Szabó, Rector of the University of Nyíregyháza, who emphasised the importance of fostering an open and inclusive academic environment in which students from different countries can learn from one another, develop their talents, and become active members of the university community.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity to recognise the valuable contributions of students who have played an important role in supporting the University's international community and promoting the institution to prospective international students. Elias Youssef, Youssef Elramlawy, and Kheloud Elramlawy received certificates of recognition in appreciation of their outstanding mentoring activities and their commitment to representing and promoting the University of Nyíregyháza internationally. Their work contributes significantly to strengthening the University's international presence and supporting fellow students throughout their academic journeys.
Internationalisation remains a strategic priority for the University of Nyíregyháza. By welcoming students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, the University continues to strengthen an academic community built on mutual understanding, cooperation, and shared experiences.
We hope that all our newly arrived international students felt warmly welcomed and that their time in Nyíregyháza will be filled with academic achievements, meaningful friendships, cultural discoveries, and unforgettable memories. May the University of Nyíregyháza become not only the place where they pursue their studies, but also a community in which they feel at home.
We wish all our international students a successful, inspiring, and enriching academic journey!
