A Distinguished Diplomatic Career
Ambassador Penny Dewi Herasati is a career diplomat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. Throughout her career, she has served in positions involving international relations, multilateral affairs, socio-cultural cooperation, and economic diplomacy.
Her professional experience includes work related to the United Nations and other international organisations, as well as senior positions within Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her career has given her extensive experience in international cooperation and engagement across a range of diplomatic fields.
Ambassador Herasati holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Communication from the University of Canberra. In 2025, she was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Hungary and subsequently presented her credentials to the President of Hungary in September of that year.
Strengthening Indonesian-Hungarian Relations
As Indonesia’s Ambassador to Hungary, Her Excellency is engaged in strengthening cooperation between the two countries across a range of areas.
Education is an important part of this relationship. The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme has enabled Indonesian students to pursue higher education in Hungary, while cooperation between Indonesian and Hungarian universities continues to create opportunities for academic exchange and greater mutual understanding.
Economic and trade relations also form an important part of bilateral cooperation. The Embassy works with Hungarian institutions and the business community to promote trade, investment, tourism, and commercial contacts, while supporting opportunities for Hungarian partners to engage with Indonesia’s diverse and dynamic economy.
Cultural exchange provides another valuable bridge between the two countries. Through exhibitions, performances, educational programmes, culinary events, and other activities, the Embassy introduces Hungarian audiences to Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Indonesian traditions such as batik, music, dance, and other artistic expressions have featured in cultural programmes in Hungary.

Indonesia is one of the world’s most culturally and geographically diverse countries. Its national motto, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika—“Unity in Diversity”—reflects the importance of diversity within Indonesian national identity.
With more than 17,000 islands and a population of more than 275 million people, Indonesia encompasses a remarkable variety of cultures, languages, traditions, and communities. This diversity is an important part of the country’s identity and is increasingly shared with international audiences through education, cultural diplomacy, tourism, and people-to-people exchange.
