A huge “WELCOME” sign signals the arrival of newly enrolled foreign students at the International Relations Office of the University of Nyíregyháza. On September 1, the institution's first Japanese student joined to begin his full-time studies in the English-language Computer Science program offered by the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.
Tenju Hattori arrived from Tokyo and, after a short stay in Budapest, will begin his studies in Nyíregyháza as the first Japanese student in the history of the University of Nyíregyháza. "I spent a week in Budapest. The city has beautiful architecture, delicious food, and a peaceful atmosphere. Nyíregyháza is even quieter, full of greenery and fresh air – I fell in love with the city at first sight," said the young computer science student with a smile.
The student will begin his studies in Nyíregyháza as a fee-paying student. “I looked into their IT training and found it very attractive, so I decided to come here,” said the student, recalling the decision-making process.
Europe is not entirely unfamiliar to Tenju: as a teenager, he lived in Madrid for three years, where he was able to indulge his passion for soccer and became a true Real Madrid fan. Now, however, a new chapter is beginning in his life: he is preparing to learn the basics of IT in Nyíregyháza, while further enriching the student life of the institution and the city as the first Japanese student in the local international student community.
