In the age of globalisation, an institution striving for quality education cannot exist without internationalisation processes, and higher education policies are increasingly characterised by activities aimed at increasing international relations. It has become a tradition in the life of University of Nyíregyháza to welcome foreign students at a special ceremony.

In the 2024/25 academic year, nearly 300 foreign students from 42 countries started their studies in English language programmes at University of Nyíregyháza. The composition of international students has never been more diverse than this year. Bangladeshi, Chadian, Kazakh, Kenyan, Colombian, Congolese, Laotian, Pakistani, and even São Tomé and Príncipe students greeted their peers.

Welcome to University of Nyíregyháza - the welcome sign proclaimed as foreign students took their seats in the rows of the benches in a visibly good mood and with great interest. Some of them were learning more about Hungarian as a foreign language, while others were studying English. The presence of international students makes life on campus multicultural and provides a good opportunity for Hungarian students to develop their English language skills and put them into practice, to build an international network of contacts, to learn about other, distant cultures and to experience lifelong adventures and friendships.

The welcoming of international students was followed by a tasting of international dishes and a musical dance evening. Student cooking teams prepared their own typical national dishes and shared them with the participants. The evening was a joyful event for all.
