There are several people involved in the mentoring programme. Their collaboration is the most important resource in supporting the international students. Helping the incoming international students to be paired with a mentor-student is one of the main tasks of our office. A mentor student supports the incoming international students in their academic progress and in gaining competent, successful life skills. In order to help our mentors to be effective in their field, we scheduled the organisation of "Mentor Training Workshop".
Gaining knowledge in the theoretical and practical background of the mentorship is the key in succeeding as a mentor. The opening of the workshop started with a surprise "AFRICA" quiz for the team of mentors, who are working with the international students at the University of Nyíregyháza. It was followed by a small group discussion on issues related to the Stipendium Hungaricum programme: students' experiences and improving their services. The programme continued with a presentation, held by Ingrid Gricák, the Stipendium Hungaricum Institutional Coordinator. She was speaking on improving the quality of students services. As a part of the training, mentors filled in the self-evaluation questionnaire to better understand their self-evaluation skills in relation to their work.
The workshop was closed by a motivational film. All the above-listed actions are playing a great role in the mentoring network preparation. And we are curiously looking forward to further upcoming events
